New York State Police made 16 arrests in a DWI crackdown which spanned Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester Counties. The arrests took place over the first weekend of the New Year from Jan 6-8.
The arrests included a man sleeping in his vehicle in the middle lane of Taconic State Parkway after he was reported by a DOT plow operator on Jan. 6. Another arrest included a man from Fishkill, NY who was later charged with Felony DWI after discovering he was previously convicted of a DWI related offense in 2009.
28-year-old Oscar Duarte of Yorktown, New York, was charged with resisting arrest along with aggravated driving while intoxicated after he ran off into a wooded area during his Standardized Field Sobriety Test. After a brief foot chase, the man was placed into custody and charged.
State Police from Troop K stated that intoxicated and impaired drivers put others on the road at risk. It is their priority to keep impaired drivers off the roadways so law-abiding citizens can travel safely on highways and roadways throughout their patrol area.
